United States Air Force Commendation Medal 1958

The United States Air Force Commendation Medal (AFCM) was established on March 28, 1958, by the Secretary of the Air Force to recognize meritorious service or outstanding achievement. It is awarded to military personnel in the grade of O-6 (Colonel) and below, often for service that is not in direct combat but demonstrates noteworthy accomplishment

Establishment: Authorized March 28, 1958, to provide a dedicated decoration for Air Force personnel similar to the Army Commendation Medal

Purpose: Recognizes heroism, outstanding achievement, or meritorious service while serving with the Department of the Air Force.

Eligibility: Awarded to Air Force personnel and foreign military personnel (generally O-6 and below).

Awards: Subsequent awards are recognized by bronze or silver oak leaf clusters.

Modernization: In 2020, the award was renamed the Air and Space Commendation Medal to include the U.S. Space Force

This medal is intended for commendable service, including valor or significant technical achievements, often awarded at the command level
