On October 5th, 1962, the first movie based on Ian Fleming’s wildly popular novels featuring the exploits of James Bond (codename 007), the British spy with a license to kill, was released in the UK. Sean Connery’s suave portrayal of the British hero launched a worldwide phenomenon. Now, 60 years and 27 movies later, Perth Mint and the nation of Tuvalu have teamed up to create a fitting tribute to the legend of James Bond and his exploits.

Internationally-renowned Perth Mint designed a reverse that shows the variations over the decades of the classic 007 logo. The “7” is, as always, a stylized representation of the Walther P38 – just one of the many, many weapons Bond used to dispatch the enemies of Her Majesty during his decades of service. The wide variety of logo treatments reminds us of the changes in culture through the decades. Despite those changes in time and fashion, threats to freedom were always present – and James Bond always stood ready to defend the world from evil.

The 60 years of Bond silver coin’s obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. You’ll also find inscriptions indicating the coin’s weight and purity of 0.9999 pure silver, its nation of issue (Tuvalu), 2022 mintage year and face value of 1 dollar.
