In 1732, the first Mexican columnario was struck, so named for its reverse design featuring the Pillars of Hercules rising from ocean waves flanking two crowned hemispheres, accompanied by the legend: +VTRAQUE VNVM+MO/1737/+MO. Our specimen dates from 1737.
