This coin is issued on the occasion of the assumption of the Presidency of the
Council of the European Union for the first half of 2026 by the Republic of Cyprus. On
the national side of the coin, the logo of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the
European Union 2026 is depicted. The logo is inspired by Lefkara embroidery, a
symbol of Cyprus’s cultural heritage. Composed of 27 elements forming a pattern of
harmony and unity, it represents the member states coming together, stronger and
more united, under a common purpose. The design embodies the Cyprus sun,
radiating warmth, renewal, and hope toward a shared, sustainable, and brighter
European future. The coin has been designed by artist Marios Kouroufexis. The coin
was minted at the French Mint La Monnaie de Paris.
